19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former coach Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an better service.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first professional title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
